We can mine here for 60 years -Marcus Reston
The General Manager and Chief Geologist of African Minerals Limited, Mr. Marcus Reston, who has been working at the AML for nearly two years now as the camp-mining site director based in Feregbaya in Tonkolili, has said that the entire life span of the iron ore mines for the three identified hills could concordantly run into 60 years, but that the first phase of the mining of the deposits on these three hills is scheduled to take almost 40 years.
He told a group of Parliamentarians on a fact finding mission over the week end that the quality of the minerals they are here to mine is appreciably better and at the moment stands at a very good quality-percentage.
African Minerals Limited is mining Iron Ore mainly in the north of the country, Sierra Leone; comprising Port Loko and the Tonkolili Districts. It has so far offered jobs to some 1,000 Sierra Leoneans and it is expected that by 2013, it will need a labour force of eleven thousand workers. So far it employs mainly technical experts and some unskilled labour, including Mr. Tamba Lebbie, a young Sierra Leonean geologist who says, he was happy working at AML, and that it is an opportunity to work along side senior expatriates who have been in the field for over twenty years.
