It is my understanding that the objective of the AFU is to prove/show they can make progress in pushing Russia back. This, in order to show the nations assisting them that the military aid isn't in vain. It doesn't sound like it is going well. Russian forces haven't really moved much along the entire line, and have more fortified positions to fall back onto (all the while having better firepower on the incoming AFU). Have been hoping for negotiation 'soon' since mid-last year. Hopefully Ukraine realise their continued efforts are not going to get them completely out of the situation they're in, and hopefully Kyiv starts making decisions for the benefit of their own population, rather than being used to inflict damage on Russia. (sorry - I am definitely jaded at this point).
