Well I called the ASX Customer Service number and they confirmed the following.
- KOR went ex-bonus today.
- To be entitled to the bonus shares you had to hold KOR shares prior to them going ex-bonus i.e yesterday.
- The record date (12th July) is the date the company looks at the share register to see who owned KOR prior to the ex-bonus date (6th July).
So the ex-bonus or ex-dividend date is the important one for shareholders not the record date. The ex-bonus or ex-dividend is usually 4 days prior to the record date.
The T+3 timeframe between transaction and settlement is more relevant to stockbrokers but not when it comes to dividends or bonus shares.
In this case for KOR shareholders the only important thing is if you held shares yesterday or not.
