(Successful) Exploration wells are also generally flow tested.
The definition of a well is based mainly on the reason for drilling the well. An appraisal well is any well following the exploration well that is drilled in order to assess extent and viability of a reserve.
Calling M2 an appraisal well IMO assumes that there was a 100% chance they would have recovered hydrocarbons to surface with the RCX tool in M-1. The Lower Angwa was not penetrated by M1 so at that level M2 is definitely an exploration well
