Lappy, you need to open your mind and extend The Voice reach into the realm of treaty and reparations which is the ultimate prize that some indigenous people demand. The Voice is the thin edge of the wedge.

From that interview you can appreciate her disrupted childhood/teenage years, raised by a single mum who had severe health issues for a time but ultimately was saved by her frequent hospital admissions due to complications with type 1 diabetes.

The encouragement by her mother for Teela to play a lot of sport ultimately lead to a lot of connections and lots of caring mentors who encouraged her into a career in law. There is no doubt Reid has become successful and high profile through one of the most privileged systems in Australia, the legal system.

So I ask again why does Reid deserve reparations? Her path is no different to my path into commerce. I started life in a house with no running hot water and a night soil toilet down on the back fence of the laneway at the back of our property. My path into commerce had a smattering of mentors who helped to guide my thinking and ambitions.

As the Barefoot Investors says “tread your own path”.

I believe First Nations people need more help to take control of their lives and wellbeing. The current system costing billions is not working, but simply caving into The Voice and ultimately reparations will not solve their problems and reparations will divide Australia and create ‘and us and them’ environment and have exactly the opposite outcome that The Voice is looking for.
