a shares value (valuation) is the market value - what someone is prepared to pay for it.
book value. independent value. not worth the paper they are printed on (see our independent valuation for eg).
my house is worth x.
but I put it to auction it's only 1/2x offered.
I can kid myself it's x and sleep at night. but in reality. ... well. hopefully not forced to face reality. ---- but our super funds and professional managers are. (you could argue that there are plenty of buildings overvalued on super fund books at the moment. but I digress)
