My 10 cents worth - without reading the thread, we are going down, just a question of when, could be this week, maybe a month or two out, but make no mistake this is going down - I'd argue heavily down as the US is completely stuffed.
I don't think people here have any idea what is actually going on in the USA. The fact of the matter is that we are going into a deflationary period where consumption is contracting at the same rate it has gone up (maybe quicker as confidence falls over) - for the next decade IMHO.
There is no growth due to a number of key factors - the first being the unsustainable levels of household debt built up in the last 20 years, the second being the introduction of the pill adjusted 47 years ahead to peak spending (introduced 1962) - this effects the whole western world (and worse for any third world country that thinks it will be exporting its way out of this) and thirdly the ageing population who save and do not spend. There are insufficient people coming through to grow the western world.
Gloom and doom - yes, however NOTHING can stop what is going on, it would not matter which Government/party or genius who is in. We need "rat catchers" not wedding planners like Obama. But having said that, the problem for the western world is so big, even rat catchers can't fix it.
