"If you are so afraid of going over then drop back to 95. It won't kill you"

Actually on the Newell Highway it will.

This highway is unique in the world, in that most of the traffic, ie. a majority, is heavy B Double trucks. It also carries many caravans. This creates 'processions' where by a B Double travelling at the legal limit is held up by a caravan travelling at say 90, or 95. After some time, there may be up to ten B Doubles following one itty bitty caravan. By that time the UHF radio is emiting blue smoke, and then one truck will pull out to overtake, - legally. Mostly they make it ok, but the scene is terrifying to an observer further back.

It is an explosive situation, disaster is certain. As I have pointed out to the Police, the RTA, and the Minister for Transport.

The speed limit was reduced from 110 to 100 last December, despite protest from the Highway Patrol and many other authorities. The stage is set for a terrible pile-up. There has already been one of these with three dead.

The processions only appeared after the limit reduction. It was a murderous decision by the RTA.
