I see the CFMEU are demanding a super profits tax & are implementing an advertising campaign to use profits from large companies to fund social housing. The CFMEU are the Labour party's biggest donor.
Just like in Mali, what is lobbied & asked for doesn't mean it will happen.
at least in Mali they are consulting the Gold industry, in QLD the government just upped the royalty with no consultation at all which is why BHP will no longer invest in QLD.
Sovereign risk is everywhere, just in different forms.
I doubt any one expects a company based in 3rd World countries to be valued the same as in 1st World Countries.
I think one of the reasons large mining companies are starting operations in Africa is because 1st World Countries like Aust, N America are just making it too hard.
