How would a takeover be financed, Regal has $6bn in AUM and 600m market cap where PTM has 17bn in AUM and a 950m market cap.
Yes, Regal is growing as PTM declines that's the reason for the difference in price. As usstudent pointed out the market is never wrong in such judgements.
Nonetheless If PTM is selling for $1.6 per share paying say $0.12 per annum dividend I feel like I am getting paid to wait for a long term cylical recovery in PTM's investment style (fundamental analysis vs FOMO). A cash payout somewhere around here isn't attractive and neither is a combination of cash and scrip from Regal.
I suspect this is a barrier to the respective parties agreeing on a transaction with mutually beneficial terms.
