Yes, absolutely - but a lot of it is done illegally and in the knowledge of the regulators. They are very big talking about price manipulation being a scourge and yet everyone knows that most shorting is done to drive the price lower (simple enough when the shares are borrowed without creating buying pressure, then sold creating selling pressure) where they are then bought back at a profit. It would be ok if ASIC was policing such illegal activity.
