We'd have to get confirmation from one of the drilling gurus BB but my recollection is that they said that only the most common alloys and sizes used constantly by the oil and gas drilling industry are readily available more or less ex-stock. I imagine as soon as you move to a non-standard composition or size you have to put your order in and wait for the pipe factory to do a run - like most of these things (rails and girders) I imagine that means bidding for a spot in the rolling/extruding mill schedule [hmmm... that's not right - how DO they make large strong seamless steel tubing - an exercise for this evening's reading ].

I think one of the regulars suggested it was likely to be a minimum of six months from the order to getting casings in Oz but for GDY I don't recall that there was ever really a clear indication of when the Engineers/Matalurgists made their pronouncements and an order was placed - probably commercially sensitive.

Sadly I got shaken out a while back trying to trade down my losses - may hop back on if we see a retracement as I'm still a fan.

I don't think we've seen anything yet in the political bloodbath over energy and carbon - its going to get a whole lot more ugly before an Australian (and global) consensus emerges and we will see GDY's fortunes wax and wane. I'd like to think I was part of a species that would just get its act together and get to work on this but its clear I'm wrong.
