    @Harrycool all you say may have some merit.

    But a much bigger problem is the external factors outside the companies control that have a bigger affect. No amount of good management can plan for rapid changes in the local economy, customers tastes, overseas cheap labour, cheap overseas R&D....try getting a new product developed here....(no-one but no-one will supply 20 units of a widgets parts to build a prototype, lest you find a retired engineer working in his shed)...the lack of quality employees, the poor folk coming from uni with no skills...(in previous times, companies offered cadetships for young employees to graduate through the company and know what was required, no so now. (ask any experienced nurse about this)........ management lack of understanding on the nuts and bolts of a business.....(I'm almost convinced there is a subject being taught at uni on how to steer your ship around obsticals(?) and sail on as though nothing is wrong, so long as you can cover it up, LOL!}

    Hagemeyer, Radio Rentals, Visionhire, Victa, Nylex..............I could go on and on, they all met the same fate.

    @spider5 yes agree, most companies changed from the mid 80's onwards............for the worse, I'm afraid.
