Yea Pete, you are probably right, but showing some backbone on the Assange issue would make him an international statesman, admired at home and around the world. He needs to demonstrate Australia will take this further. If the US wants to use Australia as a forward base (proxy target) for the coming war with China, then Australia should put that understanding at risk if they insist on treating us like a colony. Ditch the sub deal would be a good start. We will not get them till after a China war.
