You do realise you're meant to tone down the risk appetite when you're nearing retirement for this very reason? This company might have an enormous amount of potential, but it is still way on the speculative side and is therefore prone to substantial fluctuations. If you're unable to have the patience to invest in a company like this, perhaps it wasn't the right choice...
They can't just whip an announcement out of thin air though, don't blame the company for a decision you made, especially when management have performed very well to date and have this delivered (most) shareholders with significant returns
