The MC is what the current shareholder (on average) think the company is worth. A good analogy is going to garage sale and seeing some collectors item worth thousands with a price tag of $5. Do you give the seller $5000 because that is what the item is worth or do you give them the $5 they valued it at and then tell all your friends what an amazing bargain you bought?
