I don't think swelling clays was the problem. Based on the limited data I believe the hole deterioration was mechanical and time dependent.
SM comments are to the effect that examination f the sidewall cores and other data suggest that they can alleviate the mud system related hole issues by tweaking mud properties. Hopefully he's right.
Ive put forward a question for the fireside chat asking for details in the hole deterioration mechanism..lets see what SM has to say.
