I would like to point out that this stupid policy is just going to put more ordinary Australians in further debt as they throw the new car on the credit card (or take a personal loan) thinking this is such a good deal that they must take advantage of it.
And I'm pretty sure car dealers will bump the prices up as soon as the rebate is introduced as demand goes up. 200,000 is a LOT of new car demand.
And of course theres the higher insurance premiums for new cars.
