People have in-built mechanisms that create the effect of memory loss. The mind's primary function is protect the ego. To that end we deny things and have 'selective memory'. There's a huge range of ways we might suppress or repress certain memories that threaten our egos. However, I wonder if anything is ever erased. NDE'rs sometimes describe their lives flashing before their eyes in equisite detail. Squillions of data points in a split second.
I like NDEs because they offer something that's close to proof. There are several instances where the person will describe things doctors were doing, saying and even thinking whilst the patient is non-compis. They even report details of events others were doing at a distance whilst 'dead'. There's really only one way to explain it : consciousness is our true nature or identity (not the body). When the body is massively threatened or dead, this consciousness / soul / spirit can free itself from the body and move around, and know things it would otherwise have no way of knowing. I'm open to alternate explanations, bit I can't think of any. Can you?
