I think I disagree with just about everything you said there. The penalty wasn't even remotely contentious, Mary Fowler was involved in more passages of play than just about any other player, she helped defend, helped transition, helped create throughout her involvement. And no, you shouldnt play a pressing game when you are the more tired (physically, mentally and emotionally) and less skillful team, you definitely want to play a mid block and capitalize on the counter attack.

Coming 4th was a realistic and fantastic result for the Matildas, sure a faitytale finish would have been sublime but I dont think they did a whole lot wrong, they gave everything for most of the tournament and their impact has been massive. On the training ground, the number of female players showing up at grassroots level has gone through the roof. And as a coach who delivers regional programs for FA, I can say with complete conviction that I have never seen so many new people embracing the game.

You dont get scenes like the Penrith Panthers players jumping for joy and hugging each other when Sam Kerr scores a 40 yard screamer in other sports.

Nor 11.5million TV viewers on one free to air channel alone, an all time record.

In fact, with the exception of one resident bell end here in HC, it feels like most of the world has taken notice of what has transpired and doffed their hat to both the women's game and the Matildas. It honestly felt good for humanity in general on many levels. D!ckheads have had to take a back seat for the first time in a good while and I'm really enjoying the change.
