Marketing man absolutely with you to a large degree on your argument . I have no problems buying coal and fossil fuel stocks ( in fact they are about 1/4 of my portfolio) as they get priced ridiculously low for the same sort of reasoning , ie they will all be dead by 2028-2030 ( most are priced this way, even sooner) yet like you I believe they wont be disappearing anytime soon as otherwise the whole industrial economy would stop.

However I have come to the view like most things in life, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Where lithium gets interesting is you many governments of the world doubling down , despite the obvious difficulties this industry will have scaling quickly with mandating cessation of ICE manufacturing as the image below shows. I find politicians especially never want to admit they were wrong, so I cant see any of the below mandates being reversed. These mandates sort of bake into the cake the lithium demand. If you mandate no ICE manufacture by 2035, the whole car manufacturing works , you cant leave it until 2034/2035 to really start scaling up EV manufacture. No I think all they will find a way to push those deadlines back a little but I cant see them being reversed. To be reversed you would need all the right of centre pollies in the world to reject the climate narrative wholesale but most right of centre pollies are on board too, for them its more about speed of transition then do we transition.

I will throw this point out too but , the other big unknown but is a black swan event with China / Taiwan which i rate 50/50. I am coming round to the Niall Ferguson view on this. If that happens all bets could be off as that would radically re-shape the entire trade and geopolitics of the world.
