the NDIS replaces the State/territory run systems which were notorious for complaints at the difficulty getting adequate support for people with disabilities Paul. the budget combines all state budgets, thus saving the s&ts pile of cash.

its now a national system and yes, under Lib management, its been allowed to run without reins, out of control is/was true.

Shorten claims he is making better goals to reduce costs but so far he only seems to be tightening restrictions on therapeutic resources and still allowing un-regulated 'social' supports which have no empirical benefits.

but the effect is that there are now 48% of people with disabilities in employment, according to the productivity commission report. 20 years ago it was less than 5%.

the NDIS is enabling people to live fuller and productive lives and earn their own income and paying taxes. the personal results mean lower demand on health services. So the cost of the NDIS needs to be weighed against the benefits.
