But you're choosing to pull down the statues of people from a different time. Pulling it down now in a different era, when attitudes have completely changed, is just like revenge killing of people who are long dead.
What does it prove? How virtuous we are now? We aren't. Ask the people in Cambodia where more bombs were dropped that ever before and many remain unexploded.
Many of the most celebrated portraits, by artists we revere, portray the images of people we would shun today. Does that make the portrait evil?
