Wagner was considered to be superior to Russian army as not only the core Wagner troops were better equipped they had more experience and allowed on the ground commanders to lead operations. and they have ample supply of expandable manpower via convicts.

While it was demoralising to Ukraine to lose their well fortified town, the effort caused Wagner to stop fighting as they needed to recover manpower and equipment after months of slaughter, which directly lead to conflict between Yevgeny and Russian MOD leading to pretty much destruction of Wagner's remaining forces.
