Let's entertain that hypothetical then. To be more reflective of the situation in Ukraine, Australia would have had to been effectively at war with the Northern Territory for 8 years. We would have been conducting air strikes on them, and shelling their cities. Over time, the people of the NT became more resistant to the idea of returning to Australia. This puts the proposed peace talks in a different light, which may be an ideal way out of the long term conflict.
In addition: the people of the NT are partially of Indonesian descent, and many also speak Indonesian...
