Nothing really matters until after IMEC meeting. I rewatched the Q&A again.
They will be doing tests on retention. This was stated prior to any mention of PL5 and was not about a new 'lot'. Over the coming month or more, they will be using their equipment to test retention on the current PL4. This is how I interpreted that statement. Go back and listen to see if you all agree. After these tests, they may feel comfortable releasing detailed metrics.
It was interesting that DM said if a client wanted days or weeks retention then they might see a tradeoff in speed. It could have been hypothetical, or realistic around retention. If I was being hypothetical I might have said "If they want years, like Flash, then they will see a reduction in speed" so it might be telling that he says weeks. However, DM really reiterates that they are not wanting to play in Flash retention. They want DRAM speeds with 'some' retention it sounds like.
The scaling was a clear hypothetical assumption. They have scaled at 200nm, 180nm, 160nm, 140nm, 120nm and 60nm. And DM was saying all show same performance. Therefore, by extrapolation, he believes going to say 20nm will see no change in performance. It sounds to me like the talks with IMEC will be about how they can test scaling to 20nm or similar. I don't see a PL5 (as we know the platform size is 60nm and not smaller). I do see 2-3 more non-platform lots with IMEC on the basis of "the cells work on the 60nm platform, now here's those same cells that we proved work, but the cells are now at 20nm, buy us and put it on your own platforms"
