First up, ask yourself a simple question -> Would you personally prefer to build on or secure yourself to, Peter or Jesus?
The Bible is clear, there is no other name under heaven to which you must be saved (Jesus's), we must also believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
The Bible unquestionably says -> Jesus is the Rock.
It also says we are all to be stones ( would include Peter) and we are to build onto Jesus = Rock.

With that in mind as there is much more, now lets look at the passages in question.

When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and (in addition) upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
(2 subjects here, one Peter and another Rock, which is not Peter).

First up, it becomes VERY CLEAR that two very key important points come out of Simons answer, the point or key reason Jesus even asked the question in the first place.
Those points are that the answer could only have been revealed by God, demonstrating that to some degree, God favored Simon. Also that knowing both God and Jesus is very important to obtain life eternal John 17:3.
The other Key point is that -> Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God, the key purpose the Book of John is written.

Is Peter the Key here for life etc or is it God and Jesus?

Did you notice I bolded the "and" = in addition.
In the interlinear under the Greek word definitions here, the second word option is "also" = in addition.

Hence, in addition to Jesus now calling Simon Peter, in addition upon this Rock = ( the Christ, the Son of the living God.), I will build my Church.

It is - the Christ, the Son of the living God. -> that the gates of hell will not prevail against, Not Peter or the future ones after him, as in Popes, people etc.
It prevailed on them BIG time, as you would expect possible with any man, hence Jesus Never intended it to be referring to Peter.

HERE IS MY PERSONAL CONCLUSION = IT IS SO CLEAR AND OBVIOUS, THAT IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING wink.png

PS. lol, most Christians technically have a serious problem, as they are really denying Jesus is the Son of God by claiming he is God = gates of hell prevailed big time. eek.png
