No doubt some of the drivel of which you speak, will be posters taking the pi.. in banter to a perceived invitation.
The point I'm driving at, is that whatever the theory and whatever the policies to combat whatever threat, deemed by those in 'power*' (bonus pun * primary element in this discussion), exacerbating the fears of people, already vulnerable in their angst from the pandemic and matters economic and geopolitical, is quite incompetent/negligent.
Scaring /frightening the people in to submission, preying on good intent and ignorance, is cynical.
Forcing/accelerating outcomes of what is already considerably committed to and underway to combat the threat, is a societal own goal.
Remember the response to the threat is enabled through innovative technology, which no doubt will deal differently with things in ten, twenty and hundred years time. Necessity is the mother of invention.
The alarmism that belongs to e.g. Just Stop Oil and and other fringe groups is way way over the top. - Defeatist in its outlook, - contemptuous of humanity's ability to prevail and - denialist, in its understanding of gas/oil and their derivatives, critical in the human and planetary paradigm now and the forseeable future.
