What about holding back the North Koreans and the Red peril? That THAAD Radar overlooking Southern China is particularly good. Not to mention the whole country as an aircraft carrier strategically located.
Alternatively, they make some: cars, TV's, ships, and semiconductors plus commputers phones and all manner of electronic goods.
I don't even mind their food.
