fun facts
2 distinct categories where chips play
Legacy node and advanced nodes
Weebit replacing flash as one commercial strategy
95% of chips used in automotive are legacy node - they also feature prominently in several other critical industries–medical devices, consumer electronics, infrastructure, industrial automation, and defense –
Regulators and industry largely overlook legacy nodes as the profits come from the expensive advanced node category and legacy chips sell for peanuts.
That is the adoption model - ( I smell Atiq at play here ...brilliant) disrupt the legacy node with better returns in the space and you capture market share and line priority and volume
Average cost of a chip today is 50 cents
chips run from pre 2005 technology make up two thirds of all sales globally but only account only a tenth of chip revenue globally
the gap between demand for legacy chips and advanced has been increasing without adequate supply - automotive is expected to grow by 11% per year into 2027 yet the expected annual growth of legacy manufacturing is only projected to increase 2% per year over the same period
its not economically attractive to invest in legacy chip manufacturing lines as the return does not equate to capex so to introduce a line run that's more cost effective and smashes revenue on existing lines on volume is just a beautiful strategy.
ie weebit will be filling a massive supply shortage on volume to meet unsatisfied demand = disruption = $$$$$$
as an idea as to its importance Intel wants Tower
Intel failed in the original TO and yet now they have an agreement where Intel gets access to Tower legacy nodes and Tower gets joint development partnership into advanced node manufacturing

the original 'takeover deal was terminated as this suits both far better economically
patience here - deals incoming
