I worked for John Fairfax at the Sydney Morning Herald when young Warwick came back from Harvard with his shiny newly minted MBA and decided to take Fairfax private. He was to pay Laurie Connell a $100m success fee for his work. Laurie Connell wasn't even allowed on WA race tracks. It was a debacle. I also read the book "Going For Broke" by Paul Barry. Great read and I am surprised that Bondy wasn't in on the Westpac caper somewhere along the line with his vast collection of shelf companies, etc.
Speaking of debacles our great news from SE went over like a fart in church today and we closed square. I swear STX is the most irrational, frustrating, annoying and confusing POS I have ever had the misfortune to hold on the ASX. My usual question to all the self appointed experts in the STX choir "what will it take to wake this dog up?" 2026? 2027? 2028? ad infinitum?
