The EU, Canada, and etc. have put time frames for eliminating ICE vehicles. And those time frames are very soon.

I think the regulations are about stopping the manufacturing of ICE cars , there will existing ICE cars around for a long time...unfortunately.
I don't think anyone is expecting perfection just a better way of doing things and while EV's in many countries will have some component of their charging done with fossil fuels it's a component that can be reduced over time , an ICE vehicle uses fossil fuels all the time .
Over the ditch here about 85% of our electricity is renewable already with the aim being 100%...

I actually had my first drive of an EV last weekend, look forward to having one myself in tge next few years...
