During the covid lockdown I used (dilute) Betadine as a gargle and also as a nasal coating. Lots of time when meeting family etc. Just in case.

Try it ... For me - there was no reaction, no immediate response.

Now try doing a nasal rinse with blood temp distilled water - I used boiled water (lazy me) which is hardly sterile (but I assume the same result). Result every time - obvious discomfort.

Then add salt (saline) to the solution and nasal rinse. No discomfort!

That was my experience ... be interested if others note this.

So my conclusion regarding the trials ... perhaps the data is wrong or perhaps the placebo is wrong (in the real world), or perhaps the trial design is wrong. Somethings wrong and the results are incorrect but it doesn't mean the product is not working it just means the trial designers have never had to do a nasal rinse and tried it with distilled water.
