It will affect what you get.
If a takeover were to occur, the acquiring company will offer whatever they think the target is worth to them (or what they think they might be able to get away with paying).
The amount that the acquiring company ultimately pays will be divided by the total number of shares on issue to determine what you'll get for each share you hold.
More shares in total = lower price per share.
More shares issued to others means your slice of the cake is smaller.
As an investor, it's pertinent to consider these things.
