I followed those links and had a quick scan through.

I can clear up their confusion on why many people do not respond to facts when they are off track.

It is inbuilt into every living organism - one key impulse - survive. This is the lowest common denominator of all life. This is an interesting axiom and is very workable in explaining apparently unexplainable phenomena.

To be right is to survive - to be wrong is to succumb. You cannot be more wrong than to be dead. So, in many instances people hang onto unrealities, falsehood & lies because of some deep seated survival idea they have convinced themselves of. They hang onto misinformation that backs up their unreality or ignorance. They ignore facts when the facts disagree with their ideas because being wrong is just - a little loss. Many losses will eventually kill you look at how unsettled everybody got at the thought of losing Cougar or their investment capital.

But here is the mechanism of cover-ups, butt covering, justification and many other irrationalities in man.

For people who may be less secure, being wrong can be just too unpalatable. It can shift their whole reality and confuse them - its like taking out their foundations how horrible. This is the reason many people don't let the truth stand in the way of them having a good time :-)

They just can't BE wrong - but it is so simple - it is actually easy to change ones mind - that is if you are sane in the first place. The difficulty is that hardly anything is black or white - it's nearly all grey in this world. So its all about relativities.
