With a Nokia phone you do not just press the buttons to turn it on
You can look up the model of the phone on the net and find the right buttons to push
The red phone icon or the 2nd button on the right from the top has to be pressed for more than 5 seconds to activate the phone
When you removed the battery you turned it off
