Goyder refuses to quit, says major shareholders are “supportive”

Qantas chairman Richard Goyder says he’s not stepping away from his position at the embattled airline.
In an interview with the ABC, Goyder said major shareholders were “supportive of the work we’re doing, the new CEO and certainly of me”.
“The role of Qantas chair requires confidence of the board and shareholders and while I retain the confidence, I’ll get to work [...] The latest read I’ve got is that people want me to continue to do the role,” he added when asked how long he could survive as chairman.
The interview marks the first since Australia’s competition watchdog alleged Qantas sold fares for cancelled flights, which triggered the early exit of former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce earlier this month.
Mr Goyder said the new CEO Vanessa Hudson was preparing to meet with 1700 hundred ground staff who were unlawfully sacked.
He is hanging on as long as he can…..sad really. What a way to be remembered.
