I disagree entirely. I doubt we will agree on much really, so I'll preface this reply like my last one - no offence intended here, and I'm not trying to be a jerk or belittle the company.
Of course Plato know what Brainchip do. They are a decent sized fund manager. They aren't going to short a company without understanding what they "do". Listen to the guy talk - he knows what he is doing. He would know Brainchip are an AI chip company, for sure.
The guy says they have identified 23 red flags in Brainchip. So they know the company very well.
The comment was clearly, in context, suggesting the website was buzzwordy and jargon heavy, and very little focus / unhelpful on business development and goals etc and how they planned to commercialise their product. Which is what an investment requires. The website is pretty damn confusing, to be fair - and even people on here argue about what their business / revenue model is.
They aren't going to short a company on the roll of a dice. That's irresponsible and unethical. They are fund managers.
Trolling might change sentiment. But every forum on every subject has trolls - people out to make other people angry and get reactions. No financial motive is needed. Take a step back and look at the interactions objectively.
The debate is highly polarised - online debate tends to polarise. BRN holders are easy to rile up, so people come here and rile them up.
Some of the utter gutter level idiotic trolling I've seen on here with the "paid downramper!" or "shorter!" accusation thrown back at them... when it is clearly just some plum out for bites. I think a lot on here take HC far too seriously, and give the trolls (and there are some shockers) way too much credit.
The guys comment about HotCopper wasn't at all suggestive of them utilising it to run down the share price. It was clearly a "when you see retail in a frenzy over a stock, be wary" comment. They aren't alone... Seneca are a good finance firm, and they don't rate BRN at all. Their reason is literally "crazy retail".
Now maybe it will turn into a world leader one day. If you believe that, hold the shares by all means and good luck.
Shorting is just another method of investing, though... "different type of scumbag" might apply to the HC craven shorter image, but it really isn't the case. There was a drug company in the US that went nuts... one of the biggest in the world. Their business model was cactus, though. Basically a big fraud. There's a doco ep about it... "Dark Money" series, I believe.
A fund figured out their model via a huge amount of detailed research and bet it was going to fail. It did. The company were the scumbags there - they inflated crucial drugs people relied on to stay alive by 1,000s of %. One lady was paying $250k a year for a drug they had bought that was literally keeping her alive.
The shorters just saw an opportunity to make money and did. They weren't evil and out to destroy "retail".
It is, in my opinion, quite ridiculous to think a fund manager is going to roll the dice on a company not knowing in the slightest what they do. And roll the dice and go short, and then hope they can throw some HotCopper users at the problem to niggle and troll the company value down significantly. What a terrible strategy.
Sometimes posters on here tend to act like everyone is out to just tear down a revolutionary business. If it was that great, why would Plato risk going short and "trolling" billions of $$s of the value on HC, when they could just go long?
If Brainchip is as good as you believe (and it may be!), then all the HC trolling in the world won't stop it. So don't worry. HC simply isn't that significant. Do some people misbehave on here? Sure. Do a lot more just argue and niggle for fun? In my opinion, definitely.
I'd say Plato put a ton of research into Brainchip, and bet the other way - that retail hype had exploded the value well beyond justification, and they made money on the way down.
Anyway, I think the guy from Plato was interesting and spoke really well about a lot of topics. I'd say Plato's views on Brainchip are definitely something to think about further.
And as always, all just my views and not trying to insult anyone on here or the company.
All the best!
