@logco; you're wild swings at Victoria under Daniel Andrews remind me of Tony Abbott's boxing days - throwing punches anywhere in the hope of scoring some points:
. Victoria's credit rating slide was essentially due to the scorched earth approach of Jeff Kennett's Government - kicking so many cans down the road and flogging off so many state owned assets for peanuts that the grim reaper was always going to come calling.
. What really matters is what's been delivered for the massive investment in our future - freeways extended into 'the bush', transitioning away from filthy Old King Coal to renewables, drought-proofing Victoria with the desal plant and the N-S pipeline, removal of 120 level crossings etc. etc. etc.
. Victoria's health sector was indeed kneed in the groin and left to rot on the vine during the bleak Kennett Era and the grossly inept Baillieu-Napthine Years. The Andrews Government has built major new hosptials, replaced ageing ones and upgraded others but was badly impacted by the Pandemic and still has a lot to do in Health.
. The termination of the former 'Country Roads Board' and flogging off of regional road building and maintenance to the private sector by the Kennett Government has indeed proven disastrous [Disclosure: I used to work for the CRB]. Daniel Andrews Government failed to reverse what has been privatisation at its worst.
. Cancellation of the 2026 Comm Games became a no-brainer once the private sector pursued monstrous levels of price-gouging. The $380 Million break fee is a brutal reminder that governments are NOT elected to deliver guaranteed windfall gains to the private sector.
. At the 2014 Election Daniel Andrews was as clear as crystal that if elected he would NEVER build the ill-conceived E-W Tunnel under Melbourne Cemetery that the Liberal Party disgracefully signed onto as it headed for electoral oblivion.
. One of my cousins played a major role ion the construction of the Skyrail - the unavoidable replacement of nine dreadful level crossings left to strangle to death Melbourne's SE suburban corridor by the Kennett-Baillieu governments.
