I understand what you were trying to imply and no I’m not suggesting that that the military is not government- I added that reference because it is. But how far back does one go to give relevance. I figure if someone is over 70 and hasn’t been in the military since their mid 20s it’s irrelevant. Or if they spent years telling people including hotcopper that they “retired” ie stopped working when they were in their mid thirties employment experience doesn’t count for much. That’s over 35 years of idleness. That’s even more idle than you are suggesting is the case for govt workers

i thought he probably sounded like a know all who really has only opinions and no real knowledge of how anything works. More to the point - opinions that are heavily laced with negativity and pessimism that may well reflect an inner world and sense of irrelevance rather than actual facts.

btw however your comments on the latter are ill informed. Whether you think the work they do is pointless or not many of them work as hard as private sector employees. I’ve seen lazy everywhere. I’ve seen time wasting everywhere. I’ve seen make work, pointless activity and self aggrandising wasted effort across multiple sectors. ( Good for me however as it provides income generating opportunities).

Those who use government employment as a way of disparaging people might care to consider what they’d do if all government funding was withdrawn from education and teaching, health services, science institutes, defence and defence based industries, public transport, infrastructure building. Wouldn’t take long for different complaints to emerge.
