shale oil liquefaction typically uses retorting.
given that the overwhelming majority of the alpha deposit is shale oil, I'm curious to know how the proposed zero emission "bitumen liquefaction" is going to work.
I think there is a bit of marketing Mumbo jumbo going on here. and rightly so. the queensland government don't much like shale oil projects. my opinion is that GRV is correctly trying its best to focus on other products and processes involved at alpha. but I'm not so sure the boffins in the queensland government are that easily placated.
bitumen liquefaction typically involves tar or oil sands. shale oil liquefaction (and thereby retorting) typically involves canal coal - which forms the bulk of the alpha deposit.
