    Something to ponder.

Maori arrived in NZ approximately 600-800 years before the first European.  In 1840 the treaty of Waitangi was signed between the British Crown and 540 Maori chiefs.

In 1975 the NZ Waitangi tribunal was set up.

The Waitangi tribunal which is made up of Maori and non Maori "makes recommendations" to the NZ government "on claims brought by Māori relating to legislation, policies, actions or omissions of the Crown that are alleged to breach the promises made in the Treaty of Waitangi."

The NZ government does not have to accept any or all of the recommendations made by the tribunal but since the tribunals set up the NZ government has paid out, and is still paying out,  $100's of millions to different Maori tribes by way of settlement for their grievances.

All Maori no matter their circumstances also have access to subsidised health care and education.

Maori make up 15% of the NZ population they have 5 Maori only seats in parliament yet despite all this Maori make up 52% of the prison population.
