I think the problem with a lot of these modern economists etc is they get brainwashed at university or somewhere into believing fantasy type economics rather than real life economics, thus for a short period in time people get a boost in standards of living but in they end they get wiped out and start becoming homeless like we're starting to see, more and more companies now not making a uni degree a vital part of a resume or skill, imagine hiring someone with a degree from Monash, a complete formatting of the grey matter would be required before they start! LOL.
I prefer to lay the cause of the failures and coming ones at the feet of the central banks rather than the finance industry itself because thats where i think it stems from, most finance peeps just play the game, in the main they don't set the rules, bending/massaging rules and bribing politicians yeh fair enough it happens but they are more like symptoms of an imperfect base so the solution is to fix that first.
In a more perfect more intelligent world we'd eliminate central banks, fiat currency, fractional banking and income tax and return to hard money. Governments could have a 23% GST to provide the peoples needs and use a de-centralised transparent transaction ledger so we can all see where the money goes in real time to ensure it's good use and tax payer value. Free markets work much better than this communist type winner picking government large company fake free trade deal ultra low rates fake money printing corrupt system we currently have, it's amazing people actually wonder why things are going so bad for the people and good for big businesses, surely they'll wake up one day Bob...(fingers crossed)
ETF's are good for the bottom 90%, share picking big or small, especially small are for those with more capable grey matter, real logic and streetwise thinking, a solid highish level mix of IQ and EQ if you like, understanding psycology plays a large part in trading small cap pump and dump type stocks along with higher active protfolio management for risk mitigation, riding a motor bike is clearly high risk, some just don't do it, others survive and thrive due to the timely reaction to risk and forward planning of unknown but possible future risks while maintaining a path of forward momentum.
