Abbott always wanted three debates. He has forced the ALP to push really hard on his lack of economic understanding. Now he has the ALP singing his tune, he makes his move.

The Labs cannot complain now that he has agreed to the debate after their constant attack over the last couple of weeks. The Labs cannot renege after their constant attack over the last couple of weeks. The Labs have no choice but to fight ENTIRELY on Abbott's terms. A brilliant piece of political manoeuvring to have Labor eating out of his hand.

Abbott's control of this campaign has been quite phenomenal. In four short weeks I have gone from thinking Abbott was not really PM material, far better than Gillard mind you, to being an extremely intelligent, competent and controlled performer. He has taken away a huge chunk of the focus that should have been placed on the ALP launch.

After Abbott's manoeuvring, I would expect he has prepared for this debate for a long time and would be extremely surprised if he did not perform exceptionally well. If he does shoot the lights out, check and mate.
