Commentary made by Jonathan Neilsen - Project Technical Director and Scott Munro - SVP Technology Strategy and Risk
SM: "When you're talking about that, you're talking as we transition to FEED and then the detailed design and procurement, because at the end of the day we want the most robust, quality qualification process that we can get, when we move into that detailed project execution.
JN: Precisely every project will go through that phase where you go into your vendor qualification, you go through FEED and they all give us process guarantees and things and they'll do the test work to validate that on their own side for their own purposes and, in our particular case they're going to be able to do that on real solution that came from brine out of Kachi - produced into eluate and converted into battery grade carbonate and the recycle and wash solutions that come from it.
We’ll go to another slide here on the slide deck. We do have some pictures that you'll be able to see of some of the carbonate that we've produced. We’ve converted about half of the contained carbonate into battery grade material and the other half is contained in as I mentioned the recycled solution and in wash solution that we're going to hold for the validation work later.
SM: So, just to touch on that a little bit, we did the program in three batches and each time we learned from the process. As you mentioned earlier, the carbonation part is, to some extent an art almost as much a science. Each time, you can see we've produced more product and we’ve produced a better quality product. So now, by the end of the third batch which is the end of the program for us, we're in a great position to plan for full project execution.
JN: Precisely. Our goal is battery grade Lithium Carbonate which is qualified at 99.5% and you can see that all of the work that we did was greater than that from a purity standpoint. So, we were happy to see that but, as I said every step was an improvement in yield, in quality and so we've learned a lot. It was effort well spent with this group and we're very happy with the situation we're at right now. I'd like to use the term “we put ourselves in the best position for success for our commercial plant”.
SM: We’ve also got a lot of samples available for all the Offtakers. So now, we could have Offtakers lined up along the street and still have samples together.
JN: Yes. This is not a project where we produced a couple of kilos in the lab so that we had some material available.
SM: We've got to find a bigger truck!
