ermmm....how they going to take up the placement if they short the stock???. Repo agreements dont give corporate action rights to the borrower, there are embeded contractual terms in the stock lend agreement that such rights stay with the lender
you are right in essence (they will likely be able cover their short at a lower price which was prompted by the issuance of new shares) but wrong on detail/mechanics - they will trade on market
