it could very well be that we are in a bear market characterised by sectors and certain stocks crashing loosing up to 50% of their value.. this could go on for another year?? who knows??
would rather be in a LIC (especially one that employs shorts or has sound cash reserves) in periods of uncertainty. rather l can forecast the dividends in 5 months than be at the whim of the market.
during the GFC think l was 60% ARG rest BKI etc....
sure the stuff fell but as long as you held your lunch - it all came back. during uncertain times some shares crash burn and don't recover. an index ETF will feel full force of a slump (it can be a hard fall) but it too will recover (you just cannot forecast the divs).
