if you want to know how to be divisive, truly divisive, and not just on the wrong side of an argument, you only have to look at the response of the triumphalist No-sayers on social media this week, including on various HC forums. Most of the posts are hate-filled rants against those who voted Yes. And it's gone on all the way from Parliament down through the Murdoch media to all sorts of social media. It's disgraceful, tasteless and unedifying. The issue has been politicised to the extreme, and now the Coalition is cashing in and using it to paint Labour as weak and out of touch, not just on the Voice, but on Israel/Gaza and just about any other issue you can think of, all without any alternative policy - just wait for Labour to have an idea, then oppose it. It's Tony Abbott all over again. The negativity is astounding. And if you think Australia is the laughing stock of the world, you're obviously not reading the international coverage. Our attitude towards of our Indigenous people has been a constant source of criticism for decades. In my time living in Europe through the 70s and 80s it was one of the first things people asked me about.

Perhaps the 5 days leave would be best offered to those adrenaline-filled haters who can't stop sticking the boots in, to give them time to calm down. We are now more of a divided nation than before, and that's not because of those disappointed by the result of the referendum. it's due mainly to the crass hate-filled response of those who opposed it and now want to jump on the grave of the deceased motion. If they lay off for a while things will settle down and we'll all get along again. Otherwise, we can only look forward to more division and hate.
