Almost 6% informal, people obviously thinking they are pretty clever not voting properly and lodging a protest vote against the major parties; ditto people voting the Greens in the Lower House. I can understand voting for a minor party in the Upper House thinking you are bringing some form of accountability to the Govt, but in the Lower House it serves no purpose. Vote for Greens was effectively a vote for Labor on preferences so what was the point. Informal/Green votes weren't clever protest votes IMO, they were a waste of time and now place the country in political no-mans lands.

We will have a minority Govt with no real legitimacy and a restricted mandate who will have to compromise with the independents and moderate everything they put forward. In addition, there will be a fragmented senate controlled by the Greens and therefore little chance of any meaningful reforms going through.

I cannot see how anyone can think this is good for Australia. We can now look forward to three years of treading water and moderation in everything the Govt does with populist policies at the forefront rather than iniatives that may not be so popular but are in the best interests of the country.

    Good work Australia.
