Thanks Riverbrae
Robertson just went to print on the biggest load of cobblers I have seen in a while ... from the protection of parliament of course.
It will be interesting to see how forthright LNC and CNX will be with their statements of environmental effects ... another poster on the UCG threads (cant remember who) states that one of them has benzene levels of 11 ppb in one or more groundwater samples from one or more gasifiers ... probably from close proximity to a gasifier.
From a scientific point of view, if you burn coal underground it doesn't matter whether you do it vertically, horizontally, diagonally, upside down or back to front you have to produce traces of benzene/toluene in your gasifier.
Most of the benzene/toluene is brought to the surface as steam with the syngas and is condensed/separated out in the above ground plant and then water makes its way to a process water pond for evaporation I understand.
I suspect management of the whole process, including ponded process water, is important and will be considered by the scientific panel.
All, none, one or two of the three pilot burns might be permited to continue ... and imo the weighting is even on all three.
Cheers
